The Individual Challenger Activities are an exciting way for students to complete a short STEM project from home and gain an Industrial Cadets Challenger award. Each activity is designed by our educational experts and allows students to use their creativity and imagination to complete a project in their own way and at their own pace.  Students are guided through the activity on our learning platform and will have access to support for any questions or queries along the way.  All students will get individual feedback on their project.  

Once students have completed an Individual Industrial Cadets Challenger activity, they will join our alumni network and receive priority information about future EDT and Industrial Cadets activities.  

Course information:
Age group - Suggested age 11-16.
Structure - 3 hour activities that can be completed flexibly in your own time.
Cost - £25.

Routes into STEM is an innovative three-day local (non-residential) experience that gives you the amazing chance to help understand the different routes available into further STEM education and career pathways. You will have the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of life at STEM educational providers and companies, spending one day at each.

At the end of the scheme, students graduate as Bronze-level Industrial Cadets, a nationally recognised award that students can use as evidence of their experience and take forward to complement their future applications and career journeys.

Course information:
Age group - Year 9 - 10 / S3-S4.
Structure - 3 day experience at local STEM educational providers and STEM companies.
Cost - £190 for all 3 days. Bursary places are available for eligible students.

Virtual Routes into STEM is an exciting opportunity to explore the various routes you can take towards your STEM career. This course is designed to give insight into pathways following GCSEs or Nat 5 and Highers, including study routes via colleges, & university and direct apprenticeship routes through industry. This inspiring course is run to coincide with the Easter holidays, from 4th– 25th April 2025, and students can complete flexibly within this time. Young people will be able to work through activities and projects at their own pace, tour a variety of institutions virtually and also have access to live career sessions and mentor panels with STEM employers.

Course information:
Age group - Year 9-10 / S3-S4.
Structure - 20 hour course with flexible study, to explore STEM apprenticeships, university and career routes.

Insight into University is a comprehensive experience delivered both virtually and through summer residential programmes. Students can explore STEM subjects at university and the career opportunities that these subjects lead to.

Students will get the opportunity to experience university style lectures and work on activities and group projects with the support of academics and student mentors. Students will stay in halls of residence and will take part in social activities in the evenings, so they get the full university experience.

At the end of the scheme, students graduate as Silver-level Industrial Cadets, a nationally recognised award that students can use as evidence of their experience and take forward to complement their future applications and career journeys.

Course information:
Age group - Year 12 / S5-S6.
Structure - 4-5 day residential summer school at a university to explore a specific STEM subject.
Cost - £475 for 3 nights residential and £595 for 4 nights residential. Bursary places are available for eligible students.

Industrial Cadets: Silver Virtual Insight into University

Insight into University is a comprehensive virtual experience allowing students to explore STEM studies at university and the career opportunities that these subjects lead to. It provides access to information on student life, STEM projects and activities set by leading UK universities and global STEM companies, first year undergraduate lectures, live interactive sessions with academics, admissions tutors, employers and current students.

Course information:
Age group - Year 11-13 / S5-S6.
Structure - 30 hours of study to complete flexibly over 8weeks in the summer. Get an insight into STEM studies at university and thecareers they lead to.
Cost - £125

EDT STEM Silver Programme

Industrial Cadets: Silver Insight into Apprenticeships

Insight into Apprenticeships is a 6-monthhybrid extra-curricular course that has been fully-funded to inspire and inform students about the apprenticeship route to a career in STEM. This programme will provide an opportunity for young people in the Scottish Highlands, Herefordshire, Birmingham and Coventry to connect with local industry and understand the value & benefits of an apprenticeship, whilst supporting them to prepare and make informed career choices. 

At the end of the scheme, students graduate as Silver-level Industrial Cadets, a nationally recognised award that students can use as evidence of their experience and take forward to complement their future applications and career journeys.

Course information:
Age group – 15-18 years (Year 10 - 12 / S4 - 6).
Structure - Running across 6 months this hybrid course will require 30 hours of work, completing online and in-person STEM & careers activities and attending interactive live sessions.
Cost - FREE (fully funded).
