Privacy Policy

This privacy notice informs you of what to expect when EDT collects personal information about you. We are committed to protecting your personal information when you work with us, and whenever you provide such information, we are legally obliged to use your information in line with all applicable Data Protection laws concerning the protection of personal data, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Processing of Personal Data:

Whilst the majority of the information you provide to us is mandatory to take part in our schemes, some of it is provided to us on a voluntary basis. In order to comply with the Data Protection Laws, we will inform you whether you are required to provide certain information to us or if you have a choice in this.

What we will collect:

For students under the age of 16 we will collect:

  • Name, date of birth, address and email address
  • School name and address
  • Diversity data such as nationality, ethnicity and gender
  • Consent from a teacher, parent or guardian that the student can take part in our programmes
  • Parent’s or guardian’s name, email address and phone number​

We will use this data to enable your participation, to ensure you receive your awards, certification and to provide you with access to the EDT portal on the learning platform Talent LMS. The data will be removed from our system within 18 months at the latest of you completing your experience/receiving your Industrial Cadets Award.

For students over the age of 16 we will collect:

  • Name, date of birth, address and email address
  • Mobile number
  • Diversity data such as nationality, ethnicity and gender
  • Parent’s or guardian’s name, email address and phone number
  • Additional information may be required for some of the programmes, such as a CV if applying for a work placement

We will use this data to enable your participation, to ensure you receive your awards, certification and to provide you with access to the EDT portal on the learning platform Talent LMS. We will ask you if you want to receive further information from us as EDT alumni. If you do not wish to have any further correspondence, you will have the option to unsubscribe.

For our supporting companies and schools and other partners, we will collect:

  • Name
  • Email Address
  • Contact details
  • Your workplace address
  • Your job title

In addition, for volunteers, we will collect your DBS/PVG confirmation, for safeguarding purposes.

We adhere to the principles relating to Processing of Personal Data set out in the applicable Data Protection Laws, including the GDPR, which require Personal Data to be:

  • Processed lawfully, fairly and in a transparent manner (Lawfulness, Fairness and Transparency).
  • Collected only for specified, explicit and legitimate purposes (Purpose Limitation).
  • Adequate, relevant and limited to what is necessary in relation to the purposes for which it is Processed (Data Minimisation).
  • Accurate and where necessary kept up to date (Accuracy).
  • Not kept in a form which permits identification of Data Subjects for longer than is necessary for the purposes for which the data is Processed (Storage Limitation).
  • Processed in a manner that ensures its security using appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect against unauthorised or unlawful Processing and against accidental loss, destruction or damage (Security, Integrity and Confidentiality).
  • Not transferred to another country without appropriate safeguards being in place (Transfer Limitation).
  • Made available to Data Subjects and Data Subjects allowed to exercise certain rights in relation to their Personal Data (Data Subject's Rights and Requests).

Why we collect the data:

The EDT will use your personal data for a number of purposes including the following:

  • To maintain and develop our relationship with you;
  • To contact you about programmes you have or may find interesting;
  • To provide you with details about the programmes you have committed to take part in;
  • To set you up as an authorised user on the learning platform Talent LMS;
  • To ask your views on how you have found taking part in one of our programmes;
  • If you have been a student on one of our programmes, we may also contact you to understand over time what education and career path you have taken.

What happens to your data:

We will keep your information within EDT and share relevant data with our trusted third party deliverers, funders and event hosts to allow activities to take place.

For some of our virtual courses, we use limited personal data (name, email address and gender) to allow access to the EDT portal on Talent LMS (an eLearning service provided by the Epignosis Group) and we use sites for webinars and video-conferencing such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams. We endeavour to only link to websites with high privacy standards. As we are not responsible for the privacy practices of third party websites, we suggest you refer to the privacy statements of those sites.

In exceptional circumstances, when disclosure is required by law, for example to government bodies and law enforcement agencies, we are obliged to share your data.

We ask you to complete data statements to consent to the use of data for photos and video footage.

We use cookies on our registration forms. A cookie is a small computer file or piece of information that may be stored in your computer hard drive when you visit websites. Cookies are widely used and you may change your internet browser settings to prevent your computer from accepting cookies or to have the browser send you a notification when you receive a cookie. Please note that, if you disable cookies, you may not experience optimal performance.

Your information is processed only in the UK and is not moved or transferred overseas, except for courses delivered via the learning management system Talent LMS.

In that instance, the personal data collected is transferred to the United States and the transfer is subject to the latest versions of the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission from time to time, as published in the Official Journal of the European Union. Your information will be retained in a secure environment and access to it will be restricted according to the ‘need to know’ principle.
