Your support matters

In the UK today, huge numbers of young people are missing out on opportunities in STEM because of their backgrounds.

This is not a reflection of their talent or aspirations – it is heavily influenced by existing social inequalities. Class, gender, where they live, and ethnicity all factor into whether a young person has had opportunities to experience, do well in, feel connected with, be recognised in, and continue with STEM.

Inspiring young people

This inequality is preventing young people from reaching their potential. It’s also harming our society. We must inspire more young people, from more diverse backgrounds into STEM or we will be deprived of the diverse voices and skilled future leaders we need to tackle urgent societal challenges. The UK STEM sector has an average of 10 unfilled roles per business, estimated to cost the UK economy £1.5 billion each year, preventing communities from benefitting from the potential offered by growth industries that offer both economic benefits and help us to rise to the challenges of net-zero and green energy.

At EDT we refuse to accept this status quo. With the support of donors, funders, industry partners, and STEM professionals we are working relentlessly so that all young people have access to STEM experiences, role models, mentors, and careers guidance.
