Broad-Based Engineering at the University of Salford

What’s it all about?

The course is based around a group project undertaken in one of the engineering or science laboratories where the pupils build and analyse an engineering/science design and present it to their peers. In addition, the course also includes a one day visit to an engineering/science company to witness real life projects and engage in interactive discussion sessions with Industry leaders.  The course is planned to give the participants positive real life examples of what it feels like to study and work in  science and engineering related disciplines, expand participants’ knowledge and break down preconceptions of the careers available in these disciplines.  The course also gives young people the opportunity to experience life at University in a positive and supportive environment. The course is led by Professor Haifa Takruri, course leader and Professor at the University of Salford who was awarded an MBE in 2009 for her work in encouraging women and minorities into science and engineering.
